Frigates are among the United States Navy's most historic vessels and have been since the Revolutionary War. Modern frigates are among the most advanced battleships and integral to naval victories. They are used to protect other war ships however they posses less offensive fire power and speed than destroyers. This isn't a problem for frigates, because they are mainly used for anti-submarine warfare and submarines are typically slower moving vessels. Although frigates proved useful to our fleet, unfortunately, men on frigates were exposed to asbestos while aboard these vessels. Asbestos was found in a number of areas on these ships, in particular the insulation that lined piping.

Anyone who served on frigates should speak with their doctor regarding asbestos related diseases, such as Mesothelioma and Lung Cancer, and the treatment options available.
